Thanks to double packer Claude-Maurice: FCA celebrates against BVB

FC Augsburg also demonstrated its home strength on Saturday. FCA beat an offensively harmless BVB 2-1 and celebrated a brace.

Augsburg coach Jess Thorup made two changes after the 3-1 defeat against SC Freiburg: Schlotterbeck and Claude-Maurice (starting eleven debut) started for Bauer and Essende (both bench).

BVB coach Nuri Sahin inevitably made one change compared to the 2:5 at Real Madrid: Anton replaced the injured Süle (syndesmosis injury).

Referee change – Claude-Maurice counters Malen

There was an injury during the warm-up, but not to any player, but to referee Tobias Welz. He only acted as the fourth official, Wolfgang Haslberger took over the game management. And in the early stages of the game, the referee pointed to the center because BVB scored early: After Guirassy's dream pass, Malen was free and lifted the ball under the crossbar (5th).

From then on, a game developed in which BVB had a lot of possession of the ball and Augsburg repeatedly pressed Dortmund early in the build-up to the game. There were hardly any chances on either side – and then came Claude-Maurice: The midfielder was not attacked decisively and simply took a shot from around 25 meters and the ball hit the bottom left to equalize (25th).

There weren't many chances in the first half apart from the two goals. BVB didn't make enough use of the many possessions they had. The FCA, which fought very hard against it, hardly had any chances to switch over. After Labrovic parried Sabitzer's long-range shot (39th), the score was 1-1.

Claude-Maurice exploits Can errors

BVB came out of the locker room with Can and Groß for the injured Anton and Sabitzer. And Can was immediately in the spotlight because the black and yellow captain weakly cleared a cross right in front of Claude-Maurice's feet. The goalscorer to make it 1-1 didn't let himself be bitten twice and shot the ball brilliantly into the right corner to make it 2-1 (50th). FCA was the better team at that time, Dortmund was having an incredibly difficult time and had hardly any ideas offensively.

The visitors got back into the game in the 70th minute when Gittens was denied by Labrovic from close range. Dortmund now did more, pushed Augsburg to the reins at the back, Gittens put the ball past the right (80th). The beginning of a final offensive? No! Because Augsburg did it very cleverly and didn't allow any more. On the other hand, BVB, where Bundesliga debutant Kabar still saw yellow and red (90th + 9th), were extremely unimaginative offensively. So the score remained 2-1, Augsburg has now taken all ten points at home. Borussia remains stuck with a meager point away from home.

It continues directly during the week. In the DFB Cup, FCA will host FC Schalke 04 on Tuesday at 6 p.m. (LIVE! on kicker). Dortmund will be visiting Wolfsburg on the same day at 8:45 p.m.
