The Dodgers' historic comeback in the World Series against the Yankees brings the title back to Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions again after pulling off an outstanding win over their historically bitter rival, the New York Yankees.

Before they could lift their trophy, the Boys in Blue erased a five-run deficit to beat New York 7-6.

As expected and deserved, first baseman Freddie Freeman was named Series MVP after the game. He was incredible throughout and started the series with a bang in the form of a walk-off grand slam. This home run began a string of four straight World Series games with a long ball. He finished the series with six hits and 12 RBIs.

After giving up five runs early in the game, the Dodgers slowly chipped away at the Yankees' lead. In contrast to the high-powered offense that had gotten them to this point, the Dodgers relied on small ball to earn Wednesday night's victory, using multiple sacrifice flies and crucial baserunning to slowly claw their way back and take the eighth -Series title of the franchise.

Jack Flaherty, the Dodgers' starter, was flat out of the gate, allowing back-to-back home runs to Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm in the first inning and an RBI single to Alex Verdugo in the second, leading to him getting the early hook.

The Yankees added another run in the bottom of the third when Giancarlo Stanton crushed an opposite-field home run off reliever Ryan Brasier.

Despite leading 5-0, the Yankees faltered in the fifth inning, allowing the Dodgers to tie the game after a couple of fielding errors, a two-run single by Freddie Freeman and a two-run double by Teoscar Hernández was able to equalize.

With Flaherty out of the game after just four outs, the Dodgers were forced to play their second straight bullpen game, with manager Dave Roberts throwing seven arms in relief.

With the game ending in the sixth base, Stanton drove in a sacrifice fly to deep center field for what was then the go-ahead run, scoring Juan Soto from third base and giving the Pinstripes the lead once again.

Yankees starter Gerrit Cole lasted nearly seven innings and, despite a difficult fifth inning, left the field with a lead and a standing ovation from fans in New York.

In the bottom of the eighth, with the lead still intact, Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle charged the bases without recording an out, making way for Luke Weaver, who had an incredible performance in October. He was able to limit the damage while still allowing both the tying and go-ahead shots to score on sacrifice flies.

Lux first threw a sacrifice fly into midfield to tie the game and make way for Shohei Ohtani in a situation that seemed to have the makings of a Hollywood movie. But in a bizarre turn of events, he made it to first base after just two pitches after New York backstop Austin Wells interfered with the catcher. Outside of that attack, Ohtani was silent again, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

With the bases once again empty, star outfielder Mookie Betts hit his own sacrifice fly to lead off the go-ahead run, giving the Boys in Blue a 7-6 lead.

Roberts kept right-hander Blake Treinen in the game for 41 pitches, getting an incredible seven outs and sending the game into the ninth inning.

Although he is traditionally a starter, Roberts called on Walker Buehler to face the Yankees lineup in the bottom of the ninth inning, and he did just that, striking out the bottom three batters and securing the title.

Following the game, the Dodgers announced theirs plans to host a parade for fans through the streets of downtown Los Angeles.
