The Lakers' LeBron James and Bronny James share the court for the first time

The Lakers' LeBron James and Bronny James share the court for the first time

Superstar and NBA all-time player LeBron James made history again on Sunday night, this time with a record that wasn't about stats.

For the first time in NBA history, even if only in preseason, a father-son duo shared the floor, with Bronny James appearing alongside his father in purple and gold.

LeBron, known for his sentimentality during his many years in the NBA, followed the game on Twitter:

While the preseason battle gave the two their first appearance on the court, the official regular season will undoubtedly be special.

Sticking with his typical performance, LeBron scored an incredible 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting in just 16 minutes of play, as well as grabbing five rebounds and four assists. Similar to his first competition, Bronny failed to make an impact on the court, shooting and missing just one shot with four turnovers. At the start of the preseason, the rookie saw a basket, but only shot 1:6 overall.

With LeBron and co-star Anthony Davis on the court, the Lakers held the lead for most of the game, but Phoenix eventually stormed back late to win 118-114.

It is not yet known whether Bronny will play a role in the team's season this year, but there are signs that the rookie is spending time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League. Drafted 55th overall, Bronny has NBA-level defensive skills but has yet to find an offensive role or rhythm, which would potentially land him developmental reps.

Los Angeles plays its next preseason game on Thursday, October 10th against the Milwaukee Bucks. The team opens its regular season on Tuesday, October 22nd against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
