The Las Vegas Raiders are using new strategies to get a fast-paced game going

Arguably the Las Vegas Raiders' biggest concern this season has been rushing execution. The Raiders, who ranked last in the National Football League in rushing yards, knew that the rushing game had to get on track if they wanted to get this team to where it thought it should be.

Sunday's win against the Cleveland Browns showed that they are on the right track in this category. In the first three games combined, the Raiders had gained 153 yards. In Sunday's game, they nearly matched that number with 152 yards on the ground.

The main reason for the success behind these numbers is the unique plays and formations that Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has designed for this Browns defense. He got his playmakers the ball in space and gave the Raiders' carriers a chance to make something happen.

Brock Bowers, at tight end, got involved early with a jet sweep on the outside, while Tyreik McAllister got a few throws in space to take advantage of his elusive athleticism. Raider Nation knows that Zamir White and Alexander Mattison will get the most reps, but adding more weapons to the arsenal will only benefit this team for the rest of the season.

Reverse handoffs and jet sweep touchdowns were some new innovations on offense that greatly benefited the Raiders. These plays put points on the scoreboard as Tre Tucker ran into the end zone and so did DJ Turner later in the game.

As the game progressed, the performance of the offensive rushing attack also increased. Mattison broke off for a few long runs and White grabbed the bulk of the runs, scoring a total of 17 points on the day.

However, one of his rushing attempts resulted in a fumble that gave the Browns a touchdown. Despite this negative game, it was an improved performance over previous games this season.

Coach Antonio Pierce was pleased to see the direction the fast-paced game was taking today.

“Those guys ran hard, I thought we were the physically stronger team as the game went on,” Pierce said.

The players actually ran hard and it showed. White finished the game with 50 yards on 17 carries, Mattison had 60 yards on five carries and Mcallister had 11 yards on two carries. Bowers, Turner and Tucker all made impressive plays on their only carrier of the day.

As the season progresses, Raider Nation hopes the running game will continue to thrive.
