The Las Vegas Raiders' biggest problem is turning the ball over

The Las Vegas Raiders (2-3) were beaten 34-18 by AFC South divisional opponent the Denver Broncos (3-2) on Sunday afternoon, behind three turnovers by the Raiders, which remains a major problem in the search represents winning.

Leading 10-3 midway through the second quarter, starting quarterback Gardner Minshew II threw a costly 100-yard interception to Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, blowing a lead the Raiders would never regain.

“You felt the momentum, I think we all felt that, but you keep playing,” Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said of the pick-six. “When we came in here at halftime it was 10-13, I felt good about what we were going to do moving forward at halftime and at the end of the day we hurt ourselves today between penalties and turnovers.”

The Raiders started with ten points in their first two possessions and had a double-digit lead early on. After the fast start, the next six offensive attempts consisted of five punts and one interception and were outscored 34-8 for the remainder of the contest.

The momentum was never restored as Minshew added a second interception late in stoppage time and one from backup Aidan O'Connell. The Broncos scored 14 points off turnovers and won the game by 16.

The early pick-six interception was the play that killed the offensive momentum, and the next few turnovers added salt to the wound and put the game out of reach.

“I thought we got off to a good start, then I killed our momentum with a pick-six, and at the end of the day I didn't do it well enough to give us a chance to be competitive in the game. “,” Minshew said after the loss. “So ultimately it’s up to me. We’ll go full throttle again tomorrow, get to work like we always do and keep going.”

The Raiders have turned the ball over nine times in five games, and this week's loss marks the second game with three turnovers this season. Six of those turnovers came through the air, five by Minshew.

Perhaps adjustments could be made at the quarterback position to address this issue. Everything should be on the table to fix the problem that has directly led to several defeats this season.
