The Raiders' Pierce has an interesting answer for the Spiraling team

The Las Vegas Raiders have lost their last five games in a row. The losing streak begins as the Silver and Black enter their bye week. Even though the team looked bad in almost every way, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce is still confident in his ability to lead the team.

“Yeah, I mean, I'm obviously confident in my ability to lead and do what's required of me as a head coach,” Pierce said. “I just had this conversation – strange that you asked me that – with what our employees.

“I asked her what her confidence level was, where are we? As this impacts the players, the players then reflect this in their style of play on the pitch. We have to get this back and it's hard to be confident when you're losing, right? I can sit there and smile, be brave and all that, but human nature needs some of that. There's a bit of a human element there in terms of the emotions that come into it.

“But I am confident that I can lead this team and get it going. I think we're fighting. I think our efforts are there. Our execution is sometimes poor. We are letting the opportunities we have slip through our hands and we need to stop. And I don’t use the excuse that we are playing with a young squad.”

The Raiders entered Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals with injuries to several starters and key contributors. Against the Bengals, they suffered injuries to another five players, which has left the Raiders relying on a lot of young and inexperienced players.

“I actually look at it as an advantage for us,” Pierce said. “Because I have a guy who can mold, he's a sponge, and I can feed him how he should be, what he should do and how he should look. And that's what I told our staff man: Just use this time with the players that we brought in and out of the lineup to just continue to form.

“Yes, is the continuity there or is the chemistry right? It's difficult when you're in and out of the lineup. We played eight O-lineman yesterday. I don't think I've ever seen this before, at least I was a part of it. But at the end of the day the question is whether our team will last with our commitment and our fight. They love each other, they fight.”

At 2-7, the Raiders are undoubtedly one of the worst teams in the league. While many of the issues facing the team were well beyond Pierce and the players' control, they still need to perform better than they have this season. Pierce is looking forward to regrouping during the bye week.

“You’re not going to let people poke holes in our armor as we go through this difficult period,” Pierce said. “But as I told them, we have time this week to regroup. We’re going to do that over the next 42 to 72 hours and get ready to come back and get ready for Miami.”
