The Saints cut the second-year draft pick in a surprising roster move

The Saints cut the second-year draft pick in a surprising roster move

This is a bit of a shock. The New Orleans Saints waived wide receiver AT Perry on Friday, as first reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football and confirmed by other local media. Perry was in just his second year with the team after the Saints drafted him out of Wake Forest in 2023, sending tight end Adam Trautman to the Denver Broncos in the process.

The timing is strange – since the Saints are playing “Monday Night Football” this week, they're only in their second day of practice – so you have to wonder if there's an injury. Perry was limited Thursday with a hamstring injury, so they may have waived him with the goal of placing him on injured reserve. It's also possible they want to keep him on the practice squad. It's just too early to say for sure.

Either way, it's a disappointing turn for his career. Perry struggled to get into the lineup last season due to injuries and finished his rookie year with a dozen catches for 246 yards and four touchdown receptions. But as the summer progressed, he never lived up to expectations and was surpassed by other players on the depth chart. Minor injuries and inconsistent performance on the practice field have kept him out of each of the first four games this season, and it could be the end for him in New Orleans.
