Kylian Mbappe's dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain over claims he is owed 55 million euros ($60 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses will be heard by a French league committee later on Tuesday.

The hearing comes a day after a Swedish newspaper report claimed that Mbappé, the captain of the French national team, was being investigated by Swedish police for rape following a visit to Stockholm.

After Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that a suspected rape had been reported to police but the accused had not been revealed, another publication, Expressen, said 25-year-old Mbappe was the suspect.

When asked by the AFP news agency, Mbappe's entourage said they had no knowledge of a lawsuit against him.

The French League (LFP) in September ordered PSG to pay Mbappé €55 million in wages and bonuses that he was said to have been owed upon his departure to Real Madrid at the end of last season.

The committee, composed in particular of two members of the French national players' union, a judge and an independent president, can confirm or overturn the LFP's order.

The case was referred to the committee after Mbappe rejected the LFP's offer to act as an intermediary between the French captain and PSG.

The LFP ordered PSG to pay the money and gave them a week to do so, but the club appealed this order.

Mbappe hinted at a connection between the report in Sweden and the hearing, writing on X: “FAKE NEWS!!!!. It becomes as predictable as if by chance on the eve of the hearing.”

A source close to the French champions said the club would “ignore” his comment and “maintain its class and dignity”.

If the committee overturns the LFP's original decision, it would have several options, including making a completely new decision on the dispute or referring it back to a legal committee.

It is expected that it will take several days before the conclusions are published.

The origin of the dispute can be traced back to an agreement in August 2023 that saw the player excluded from the PSG squad for refusing to extend his contract.

An extension would have allowed PSG to receive a transfer fee if Mbappe had then left that year, but instead he left for free under contract freedom and signed for Real.

As part of the agreement, Mbappe said he would forego various bonuses worth €55 million if he left on a free transfer at the end of last season.

But the validity of the agreement, which Mbappe himself publicly alluded to to journalists in January, is being disputed by those close to the player. They call it a “hidden agreement.”

The amount claimed by Mbappe is made up of the final third of a €36 million gross signing fee that he was due to receive in February, as well as his last three months' salary from last season and an ethics bonus for the same period.
