The Sixers' Tyrese Maxey and Paul George ranked in ESPN's 2024-25 NBA player rankings

ESPN's 14th annual Top 100 Player Rankings for the 2024-25 season are out. ESPN's panel of experts was asked “Which player will be better in 2024-25?” for player-versus-player matches with more than 15,000 possible matchups to determine a ranking.

The first half of the top 100 rankings can be found here (although no current Sixers were featured). Most of the remaining half were released on Wednesday, including Tyrese Maxey and Paul George.

ESPN ranked George 21st overall, ahead of names like Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Paolo Banchero, Kyrie Irving, De'Aaron Fox, Zion Williamson, Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns. His teammate Tyrese Maxey was just ahead of him in 19th overall, ahead of the aforementioned names and Ja Morant, who was in between in 20th.

ESPN hasn't released the top 10 rankings yet, but the names above Maxey and George are as follows: Bam Adebayo, Donovan Mitchell, Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Booker, Jaylen Brown, Anthony Davis, Jalen Brunson and Victor Wembanyama.

It's easy to make rankings of who should and shouldn't be above George or Maxey, considering they're part of such a talented group. However, it's fun to track trends of where players have progressed or regressed. The ESPN rankings also show where these players were ranked a year ago, with some big changes.

Maxey, for example, was 42nd overall just a year ago. George's ranking has barely changed from last year, moving from 18th to 21st this year. It's a highly anticipated season for the Sixers, so it's possible that these rankings will look completely different a year from now.

Joel Embiid will almost certainly be in the top 10 somewhere, so we'll have to wait and see where he lands.
