Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Star Eduardo Xol has died. The designer, who appeared in more than 60 episodes of the home improvement series, was 58 years old.

Xol died on Thursday, September 19, at Desert Regional Medical Center, according to TMZ. Xol's mother confirmed his death, which occurred about a week after the stabbing. A statement from Xol's family read: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know his kindness touched the lives of so many. We ask that this kindness be reciprocated now so that our privacy is respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo's name to the Lupus Foundation of America, as he spent so much of his life serving others.”

The television star was reportedly found in an apartment after calling authorities for help. At the time of the stabbing, police had reported that Xol was in serious but stable condition when he was admitted to a local hospital on September 10. No suspects were initially named, but 34-year-old Richard Joseph Gonzalez of Cathedral City, California, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with Xol's stabbing and resulting death.

Xol memorably came Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in the show's second season and served as a designer from the first season until 2012. In addition to his skills as a home renovator, Xol had starred in several telenovelas earlier in his career, including Sentiments Ajenos, Acapulco, body and soulAnd The Golden Jail.

Following Xol's death, his friend Richard Pérez-Feria posted a touching tribute on social media. On Instagram, Pérez-Feria wrote: “It's almost unbelievable that I'm writing this post to say goodbye to someone who was so present and so important in my life. When I first learned that Eduardo Xol had died, I was numb. It was impossible to process this information because it didn't match my thousands of experiences with him. Please don't ask me at this point how or why… what matters most is who he was: A talented, wonderful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner.”

“The millions of laughs, hopes and secrets we shared remain in my thoughts,” Pérez-Feria continued. “I want to honor my dear friend and celebrate his life as one that meant something to so many. He certainly meant something to me. I send healing love to his circle of friends and family who loved him so much during this terrible time. Unfortunately, tomorrow is not promised. Love one another. Rest in peace, Eduardo.”

As for Gonzalez, the suspect is currently being held without bail.
