The weather is expected across the US on Election Day

Weather conditions may be a factor in how many people vote in person election day.

The strongest weather in the US is forecast for Tuesday in Montana, where snowstorms could occur, but that state is not a battleground and is heavily favored for Donald Trump.

Some rainfall is expected in key battleground states such as Michigan and Wisconsin.

Here are the Election Day predictions for the seven most heavily contested states.

Arizona

Phoenix and Tucson, as well as many other areas of the state, will see temperatures in the high 60s (15.6-20.6 C) to low 70s (below 20 C). Northern areas will experience cooler temperatures. The state will be largely dry, with only light precipitation possible near the Utah border.

Georgia

Temperatures in Georgia are expected to be in the mid-70s (around 23°C) to 80s (high 20s C). Southwestern parts of the state could see light rain late Tuesday.

Michigan

Temperatures will be above normal across Michigan, with southern portions of the state expected to be in the 70s (21-26°C) above normal. Detroit could see temperatures in the high 70s (around 25°C). A few thunderstorms are possible across lower Michigan later in the day. The Upper Peninsula will see temperatures in the 50s (10-15°C) and 60s (15.6-20.6°C) and about 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) of rain.

Nevada

Temperatures are expected to be in the 60s (15.6-20.6°C) across the state. Las Vegas could approach 70 degrees (21 degrees C) and Reno will see temperatures in the mid 50s (low teens C). At higher altitudes, temperatures are around 20 °C (approx. minus 5 °C) in the morning and warm up in the afternoon.

North Carolina

Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s to 80s (mid 20s C), with a few showers possible in western parts of the state.

Pennsylvania

No precipitation is expected in Pennsylvania. Temperatures will be in the 70s to 80s (mid 20s C) in some western regions, including Pittsburgh.

Wisconsin

Much of central and eastern Wisconsin will be in the 60s (15.6-20.6°C). Near the Minnesota border, temperatures will be closer to 45 or 50 degrees (about 8°C). Conditions will be wet throughout the day. The northern half of the state could see about 0.5 inches (1.3 centimeters) of rain, with less expected in the southern half.

Weather across the country

Most of Tuesday's precipitation is expected in the central U.S., where isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible. In addition to possible snowstorms in western Montana, snow is also forecast for parts of Idaho, eastern Washington and Oregon. Calm weather is expected for the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southwest. Windy, dry weather in California raises fire risks.

These forecasts come from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Weather Prediction Center.
