The Yankees want to get out of the deep hole while the Dodgers await the results of the Ohtani injury

The New York Yankees have made a steep climb as they attempt to overcome a 2-0 deficit against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

After skipping the first two games of the Fall Classic at Dodger Stadium, the series will now return to the Bronx for at least two more games starting Monday.

Whether the Dodgers have superstar NL MVP favorite DH Shohei Ohtani for the rest of the series remains to be seen.

As Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters, Ohtani suffered a left shoulder subluxation, a partial dislocation, when he slid into second base on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning.

According to Roberts, Ohtani was sent for testing on his shoulder, but the Dodgers were “encouraged” by their star's mobility and strength following his injury.

Ohtani went just 1-for-8 in the first two games of the series, but the lefty swingman hit a crucial double in Game 1 that ultimately led to a run. He's also arguably the best hitter in the world, so his loss would be significant as the Dodgers look to get two more wins from the Yankees to secure a title.

For Ohtani, it might come down to pain tolerance/management. Still, Roberts and the Dodgers were optimistic about his availability for the rest of the season.

The Yankees will rely on right-handed starter Clarke Schmidt in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium on Monday as they hope to get into the win column and get closer. New York needs just one win to ensure three games are played in the Bronx this week.

The Bronx Bombers are also counting on their fans to help spark some energy as the series returns home. The Yankees need more from their offense as they only scored five runs total in Games 1 and 2.
