They said it: Oscar Pareja and Luis Muriel share their thoughts after the loss to Columbus Crew

“It was a very competitive game. Our players deserve credit for showing heart and will to bounce back from the adversity the game gave us. We were unable to take advantage of our chances, especially in the first half, and we were unable to open the game. We had very clear moves there and in the second half we could have equalized. A very intense game against a good opponent. Our performance will allow us to keep this momentum despite the result. The boys are giving their all and playing hard and well and we will get ready before the next game.”

When to play aggressively against Columbus or when to hold back

“I always say that this game is a game of suggestions and risks. When you propose to be aggressive up front, you risk opening up spaces at the back, especially against a team that knows how to play in those spaces. Even though we proposed to be tight and organized, as we did in the first half, we had clear options behind that we couldn't finish and change the course of the game. Against a team that has those initiatives, sometimes you have to choose one of the two. In the second half, we decided to press much more, regardless of the spaces we left behind. We conceded two goals, but we also scored three. That's the part of the game that we have to equalize. Today they scored one more goal than us and conceded the result. We played a good game. I thought we were very competitive and, as I said at the beginning, with a few chances that we had, we could have easily been ahead at half-time. We hit the post twice and it showed.”

About Luis Muriel and his current form

“What is happening with Luis is great news. I have to highlight his professionalism and the way he behaves at the rhythm of the league and the team. I think he is already getting results. That is what we are looking for. It is great news that he is raising his level and being productive for us. We hope he continues like this because at this point we need him.”
