Tim Tebow: Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith reminds me of Julio Jones

Jeremiah Smithwho is already being praised highly as a newcomer, received great praise from Tim Tebow when he compared him with Julio Jones.

As a true newcomer and No. 1 candidate for 2024 in the On3 industry, Smith didn’t wait long to make an impression at Ohio State Attack. When Tebow watched him in the first few games and even in fall camp, he saw the next version of Julio Jones.

Yes, that Julio Jones. Smith could be just like him in the not too distant future.

“I was at practice during fall camp and I was like, 'What?'” Tebow told On3. “Like this is a joke, like this kid is so talented. I know that sounds like a lot, and I don't mean that as an exaggeration, but I remember going up against Julio Jones' (team) my freshman year, and I thought, that's the first (name) that came to mind when I was watching him. I thought, whoo, that reminds me of Julio. So I thought, damn.

“And I don't put a lot of people in Julio's category. I have very few: him, AJ Green and a few others. That's not a lot, and those are the ones I thought of. So he still has a lot of room to reach Julio's status, but that was the first name that came to mind.”

Whether Jones or AJ GreenAs Tebow indicated, Smith is a special player. In three games this season, Smith has 11 catches for 211 yards, three touchdowns and 19.2 yards per catch.

A member of the Class of 2024, Smith was a five-star-plus recruit out of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the state's top prospect, the class's top wide receiver and the class's top prospect.

Even ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit called Smith a wide receiver who could be the best in school history.

“I mean, I don't want to go overboard and say, 'He's going to be the best ever,' but he might be the best they've ever had,” Herbstreit said of Smith. “This guy is a grown man, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and Ryan Day and Chip Kelly said he was just so polished with his route running, his knowledge of the offense, the way he played, the way he worked and his humility, which is very rare for a high-level wide receiver.

“But with this guy, I think we'll find out how good he really is in the next few weeks, in Oregon and Iowa.”
