This weekend, much of the college football world will be turning its attention to Ohio State's game against Oregon, a clash of top-five teams with significant conference title implications and College Football Playoff implications.

The Ducks won't be the only major university in Oregon competing this evening.

On Saturday, Oregon State travels south to face Nevada in one of several matches the Beavers will play against Mountain West Conference opponents this season as part of a Mountain West-Pac-12 scheduling agreement.

After losing virtually every key player from its 2023 team, including head coach Jonathan Smith, Oregon State is off to a strong start to the 2024 season. Although the only loss was painful – a 49-14 thrashing at the hands (or webs?) of arch-rival Oregon – the Beavers are 4-1, having picked up wins over Purdue and Colorado State since losing to the hated Ducks . Last Saturday's win over Colorado State was particularly hard-fought, with Oregon State scoring a game-winning field goal with 20 seconds left in regulation and then winning in double overtime.

Running back Anthony Hankerson, a transfer from Colorado, has had strong performances of late for coach Trent Bray's team, totaling 202 yards and four touchdowns in the Beavers' last two games.

They will look to extend their winning streak to three against a Nevada team that enters the match with a 2-4 record.

After going 4-20 the last two seasons, the Wolfpack showed signs of improvement under first-year head coach Jeff Choate, who previously built Montana State into one of the top programs at the FCS level. The 2-4 record is also a bit deceptive, as three of Nevada's four losses this season have come by a total of 12 points, including a 29-24 opening loss to an SMU team that is now ranked No. 25 in the US LBM Coaches' Poll .
