Can you solve today's sentence?

This really amazed me, even though I guessed the “O” straight away. FLOAT left me with a whopping 270 remaining possible solutions, and SPINE only reduced that number to 37. Ouch. GOURD seemed like a natural next guess—after all, I had to exclude the “U”—but apparently there were five words left. I could only think of two: HOBBY and MOM, and I chose the wrong one. Apparently others, like COCKY, were an option, so I guess I got lucky with five too. Huzzah?

Today's Wordle etymology

The word “Mama” is a diminutive of “Mama,” which is itself a variation of “Mother.” The root “mother” comes from the Old English word mōdorwhich is derived from Proto-Germanic mdr and the Proto-Indo-European méh₂tērwhich means “mother”. “Mama” came into use in the 19th century as a childish or affectionate term for the mother, similar to how “papa” is used for “father”. It reflects the tendency in many languages to use redoubling or diminutive forms when addressing parents in endearing ways.
