Tom Holland confirms when the MCU sequel will begin filming

Tom Holland confirmed when production for Spider Man 4 is set to begin his final appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This update from the MCU Spider-Man actor comes after he revealed earlier this month that he and Zendaya had read the script for the fourth film.

According to Tom Holland, Spider-Man 4 will begin filming in summer 2025

During an interview with Holland, Fallon inevitably brought up Spider-Man 4, as the project is generating a lot of buzz. A few days ago, Holland spoke extensively about this topic on Rich Roll's podcast. In addition to the part about the script, he also revealed that his idea for Spider-Man 4 was rejected because it was already explored in Captain America: Brave New World.

In response to Fallon's questions, Holland confirmed that Spider-Man 4 was underway before revealing that the film would begin filming in the summer of 2025. “It happens,” Holland said of Spider-Man 4, prompting Fallon to stand up and hug him.

The Uncharted actor continued: “Yeah, next summer – next summer we start filming, everything is ready to go, we're almost there, super exciting… I can't wait.”

Spider-Man 4 will be the fourth installment in the MCU's Spider-Man film series, following Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The project is currently in development at Marvel Studios, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers serving as screenwriters. In September 2024, it was reported that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) for Marvel, was in talks to direct the film, but this has not been officially confirmed yet.

When production begins on Spider-Man 4 in summer 2025, it will be one of Holland's first projects since returning from his year-long acting hiatus. According to current reports, he will star opposite Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan's next feature film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
