Tommy Edman, the 5th Dodger with home run & steal in World Series game

LOS ANGELES – Tommy Edman has proven invaluable since joining the Dodgers' roster in August, and his incredible postseason run continued with a rare power/speed combination in the World Series.

With a home run and a stolen base in Game 3 against the Yankees, Edman became just the sixth Dodgers game with at least one in a World Series game and only the fifth player to do so:

  • Wes Parker, 1965 Game 4
  • Joe Ferguson, 1974, Game 2
  • Davey Lopes, 1977 Game 4
  • Davey Lopes, 1978 Game 6
  • Mookie Betts, 2020 Game 1 (with two steals)
  • Tommy Edman, 2024 Game 2

Edman, fresh off winning the NLCS MVP award after scoring 11 runs against the Mets, did that damage in the first three innings of Game 2 against Yankees starter Carlos Rodón on Saturday. It started with a home run in the second inning.

In the third inning, Edman doubled and stole third base. His four stolen bases this postseason lead the Dodgers. Edman will play center field on Saturday after starting the last nine games at shortstop with Miguel Rojas sidelined.

Against lefties this postseason, the switch-hitting Edman has a solid 11 hits in 16 at-bats (.688) with two home runs, four doubles and nine runs batted in. Taking his regular season numbers into account, Edman has managed 25 hits in 50 at-bats this year with six home runs, six doubles and a triple.

“I'm just trying to kind of ride the wave,” Edman said after Game 2. “It was nice that one of my hot streaks came during the playoffs. Baseball obviously goes through ups and downs.”
