Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou allays concerns about Son's fitness ahead of game against AZ Alkmaar

Ange Postecoglou has allayed concerns over Son Heung-min's fitness after the Tottenham Hotspur captain missed training ahead of Thursday's Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar.

Son returned from a hamstring injury to score in Spurs' 4-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday, but missed training on Wednesday.

“Sonny was a bit sore after the weekend, he was never going to be there tomorrow anyway,” explained Postecoglou. “So we'll leave him outside tomorrow and see how he does.”

Son, 32, suffered a hamstring injury in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Qarabag in the Europa League on September 26, forcing him to miss the next three games in all competitions, including the 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Son was also not included in South Korea's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and Jorda earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou also provided information about summer signing Wilson Odobert, who could return after more than a month out due to a thigh injury.

19-year-old Odobert has not featured since Spurs' Carabao Cup win over Coventry City and the striker is now back in training. However, head coach Postecoglou is cautious about his willingness to play.

“Potentially (he could be there) we have to be careful with him because he missed a lot and only trained this week,” Postecoglou added. “He will be included in the squad, but playing time will depend on the game.”
