TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis program sets its sights on the first part of its fall tournament schedule with the Mercer Gridiron Classic, which begins on Friday, October 4th and concludes on Sunday, October 6th at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

“I’m looking forward to having a great weekend in Macon,” said head coach Rolando Vargas said. “We are taking the entire team with us and are very happy about the opportunity to take part in a competition. It will be fascinating to see how we have prepared physically and mentally. In doubles it will be important to see our chemistry. We had excellent performances.” I've already done a few exercises and the energy seems really good. So this will be our first opportunity to send a message and we’ll see how it goes.”

Troy opens the tournament on Friday with a full doubles round and two singles rounds. Saturday begins with two more doubles rounds before another singles round. The tournament ends on Sunday with a singles round in doubles and singles.

Summary 2023-24

In the 2023-24 season, the Trojans topped the charts as the No. 62 team in ITA after posting an SBC record of 19-7, 4-4. At the Lunsford Tennis Complex, Troy dominated almost every time, falling one game shy of a perfect record at 12-1. In non-conference play, Mario Martínez Serrano won his 11thTh A straight singles game to beat No. 53 South Florida on the road while also defeating Point, Alcorn (2x), AUM (2x) and Alabama A&M.

Although the Trojans' season ended early with a 4-1 loss in the opening round to No. 3 Georgia State, the program finished as the No. 9 team in the ITA Southern Regional and the No. 10 teamTh in the final individual regional ranking (119th).Th in total). In the individual, Mario Martinez remained in the top 100 of the individual rankings with 71st placest. Carles Anton and Andres Pastor were also named All-SBC Second Team in doubles, and Martinez Serrano was named Sun Belt Player to Watch for the second consecutive year – as well as All-Sun Belt First Team.

The team opens the 2024-25 season by introducing two newcomers: Henrique de Brito And Hiiro Sakamototo complete the seven-man squad.
