Trump Snaps at Reporters When Asked About Abortion: 'Stop Talking About It'

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump refuses to say how he voted on Florida abortion measuring – and being irritated by it.

The former president was asked twice after he cast his vote in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday about an issue on the minds of the state's voters. If approved, it would prevent state lawmakers from passing a law that penalizes, bans, delays or restricts abortion until the fetus is viable – which doctors say is sometime after 21 weeks.

If rejected, the state's restrictive six-week abortion law would remain in place.

When first asked, Trump avoided answering. He said in lieu of the issue that he “did a great job bringing it back to the States.” He was referring to the former president's appointment of three conservative justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who helped overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 2022.

When pressed about it a second time, Trump snapped at a reporter and said, “You should stop talking about it.”

Trump had previously indicated he would support the measure – but then changed his mind and said he would vote against it.

In August, Trump said he thought Florida's ban was a mistake, saying on Fox News Channel: “I think six weeks, you need more time.” But then he said: “At the same time, the Democrats are radical” and repeated false claims that which he had often made about late-term abortions.

In addition to Florida, voters in eight other states are deciding whether their state constitutions should guarantee a right to abortion and weighing ballot measures designed to boost voter turnout in a number of key races.

Passage of certain changes in Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota would likely result in reversing bans or restrictions that currently restrict access to abortion to varying degrees for more than 7 million women of childbearing age living in those states block.
