Tyler, the creator's new album, Chromakopia, release date October 28th

Tyler, the creator, who teased new music on social media yesterday, has announced that his new album Chromakopia will be released on October 28th – a Monday that breaks the music industry's usual Friday release date.

No further information has been released other than that a box set edition of the album is now available for pre-order, but a two-minute teaser video clip released yesterday suggests that at least the album's first single, “St. “Chroma” has a dark undertone. It opens with a masked character, apparently Tyler, leading a line of masked people marching through the desert – his hair is weird and bunny-like, but the black and white video and the whispered, almost incomprehensible rap and music of the song – ranging from sung vocals to a distorted chorus – they have an ominous aura. In fact, all the people march into a long container with the word “Chromakopia” painted on it – then the video turns to color and you see a hand ignite a detonator and the container is destroyed in a massive explosion along with all the people inside.

The album will be the first new music from Tyler since releasing the expanded version of his excellent 2021 album Call Me If You Get Lost early last year. He performed at the Austin City Limits Festival earlier this month and said it would likely be the last show he'd play for a while – making the new music doubly curious since his annual Camp Flog Festival in Los Angeles is for one scheduled in a month; No line-up has been announced, but the festival often only announces its line-up a few days in advance.
