UFC 308 photo details: Robert Whittaker's shattered jaw, teeth from Khamzat Chimaev's submission

There's a good reason Robert Whittaker was eliminated just a split second after Khamzat Chimaev ended his fight at UFC 308 with a devastating face crunch.

Following the pay-per-view broadcast, Daniel Cormier showed a gruesome photo Whittaker had sent him to show the damage done by Chimaev's stunning submission.

“Khamzat Chimaev broke his tooth,” Cormier said of the photo. “Literally dislocated his jaw in two seconds. It was incredible.”

(Warning: The UFC 308 photo below is quite graphic.)

Chimaev's finish marks the first time Whittaker has ever been submitted in the UFC.

It was a dominant performance from start to finish as Chimaev landed a takedown just seconds into the opening round, not giving Whittaker a second to breathe. Chimaev was dominant but not impatient as he continued to ensure he maintained control over Whittaker as he did his best to break free and get back to his feet.

Chimaev repeatedly dragged him to the ground as he tried to improve his position.

When he finally had full control of Whittaker's back, Chimaev quickly wrapped his arms around the former champion's face to block the submission. Chimaev tightened his grip and Whittaker immediately tapped out.

Whittaker apparently told Chimaev in the cage that he had suffered a dislocated jaw, but it wasn't until backstage that the full damage was revealed. Apparently Whittaker will be headed for oral surgery due to Chimaev's nasty submission.

The win moved Chiamev to 14-0 in his career and 8-0 in the UFC, taking another step toward a potential middleweight title shot.
