UFC Fight Night: Preliminary results Moreno vs. Albazi

Early decisions gave way to entertaining final results later on as the preliminary rounds were played at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Canada got on board immediately Jamey Lyn Horth They picked up a split decision win in the opening game, with the home side 4-1 before the action moved to the main card. The breakthrough in the provisional starting list was thanks to the rising featherweight Youssef Zalalwho picked up his third submission win of the year by knocking out Jack Shore and securing the finish after connecting with a gorgeous step-in knee seconds earlier.

It took a while for the action to really heat up in the Oilers' frigid home, but when it did, the night really started to sizzle.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT: MORENO vs. ALBAZI takes place on Saturday, November 2nd at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada with the main card at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ESPN+. Prelims will be available at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT on ESPN+. In Canada, the card will air on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

The main event and co-main event are scheduled for five rounds. All other fights are scheduled for three rounds.

  • Dustin Stoltzfus defeated Marc-Andre Barriault by KO (right hook) at 4:28 of round 1
  • Mike Malott defeats Trevin Giles by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Jamey-Lyn Horth defeats Ivana Petrović by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)

Ivana Petrović and Jamey-Lyn Horth opened the evening in Edmonton with a tough flyweight exchange.

Petrović gained the upper hand in the opening round, controlling things in the clinch and on the ground, closing the frame and landing short elbows from top position. Horth had more success in the first half of the second round, attacking an armbar before the two loosened up a bit with hands in the back half of the round.

The third round was a give and take, with each woman having moments of success on her feet as she fought her way to the final horn.

The judges were asked to choose the winner and when the points were tallied, it was decided Horth That was the positive side of the split decision. After nearly a year on the sidelines, it's a nice comeback win for the fighter from Squamish, British Columbia, and a positive start for tonight's Canadian lineup. | Main map results | Official scorecard

Cody Gibson defeats Chad Anheliger via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Cody Gibson's big brother Chad Anheliger competed in the bantamweight division earlier in the evening and dominated the action on the screen en route to his second straight UFC victory.

“The Renegade” was one step ahead of the Canadian at every turn, beating Anheliger to the nearest position in every fight, dragging him back to the canvas when he managed to get back to his feet, and attacking with both punches and punches the entire time with attempts at submission.

Anhelgier had early success on the feet early in the third round, but Gibson was able to quickly get him back to the canvas and hung on to him for the rest of the round to take the win.

All three judges saw it for Gibson, who has now earned a consecutive 2-2 draw in his second appearance on the UFC roster. The 37-year-old California native improved to 21-10 with the win, while Anheliger fell to 13-8 with the loss. | Main map results | Official scorecard

Serhiy Sidey defeats Garrett Armfield by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Serhiy Sidey picked up the first UFC win of his career on Saturday, outpointing Garrett Armfield in an entertaining clash between two action bantamweights.

The Born in Burlington, Ontario Armfield was just a touch ahead in each of the first two rounds, landing the heavier, more devastating punches and also threatening a D'Arce choke in the opening stanza.

Armfield He went back to his wrestling in the third round and took Sidey to the canvas a few times, but the Canadian threatened chokes, attempted reversals and scrambles and generally did a good job of avoiding real punishment.

The judges were once again called upon to decide the outcome, with the first-year UFC fighter landing on the positive side with the split verdict. After an entertaining bout in Toronto earlier this year, the 28-year-old is starting to establish himself as a must-see action fighter in the 135-pound weight class. | Main map results | Official scorecard

Alexandr Romanov defeats Rodrigo Nascimento via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Heavyweights Alexandr Romanov and Rodrigo Nascimento continued the parade of fights over the distance, going head-to-head in a battle of ranked fighters that had moments of action and periods where each man was clearly gasping for air.

Romanov dominated with his grappling for the first time, bringing Nascimento to the canvas several times, looking for submissions and landing short attack jabs.

The second and third rounds were fought almost entirely on the feet, with each man trying to find clean shots as his energy reserves dwindled. Unfortunately, the most memorable blow of the fight was the thud Nascimento landed below the belt.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Romanov, who returned to the winning list after losing to Jailton Almeida in his first appearance of 2024 at UFC 302 in June. The 33-year-old is now 7-3 in the Octagon and 18-3 overall in his career. | Main map results | Official scorecard

Youssef Zalal defeated Jack Shore by submission (arm-triangle choke) at 0:59 of round 2

Youssef Zalal scored the first finish of the night in Edmonton, submitting Jack Shore after flooring the Welshman with a perfectly timed step-in knee.

After a hard-fought first round in which each man had moments of success in the clinch and grappling areas, the two opened the second fight on the feet, where Zalal delivered a right knee to Shore's chin, causing him to fall backwards to the canvas. The man from Factory Riverbank.

That's now three wins, all by submission, in nine months since the short-notice return to the promotion earlier this year. Charles Jourdain defeated Victor Henry by submission (guillotine choke) at 3:43 of round 2

Charles Jourdain put in an impressive performance in his bantamweight debut, submitting Victor Henry in the second round.

The French Canadian He looked good from the start, landing the better hits as the two worked on the feet and doing well when they settled on the fence.

Heinrich tried to fight in the second period and took Jourdain's back, but the Montreal native defended well and was always looking for an attacking opportunity. After looking for the choke earlier in the frame, he managed to latch on to the palm-to-palm variation and quickly forced Henry to tap out.

Aiemann Zahabi defeats Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

The fifth goal in a row for Aiemann Zahabi Tristar product took the biggest win of his career at the end of the preliminary rounds and beat Brazilian veteran Pedro Munhoz on the scorecards.

Efficiency was key for Zahabi as he was deliberate with his shots, but also hit them from long range, countered well and connected the balls consistently and decisively Munhoz.

Operating behind a high defense, the French-Canadian did a good job of avoiding too big of a penalty, dodging and recovering before finding small opportunities to exploit.

All three judges scored the fight in Zahabi's favor, giving the 36-year-old his second win of 2024 and his fifth in a row since the start of 2021.
