UHP identifies 5 dead in crash on US 6 near Price

PRICE — A multi-vehicle crash left five people dead Thursday afternoon north of Price. The victims were identified Friday by the Utah Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred Thursday afternoon as a silver SUV stopped on Spring Glen Road and prepared to head east on US 6. He tried to move into a designated acceleration lane, but overshot the target and ended up in the next lane where a semi-truck was driving. according to a statement from UHP.

The truck attempted to avoid the SUV, lost control and “veered left into westbound traffic,” the statement said. The truck crashed into a westbound Nissan, sending it off the road and into a rocky embankment. An ATV traveling on the westbound lane was also struck in the accident.

The four occupants of the Nissan and the occupant of the ATV all died in the accident.

On Friday, UHP identified the people in the Nissan as Sang Her, 56, of Brooklynn Center, Minnesota; Lee Thao, 38, of Brooklynn Center, Minnesota; Bee Moua, 26, of St. Paul, Minn.; and Mai Lor, 25, of St. Paul, Minnesota. The four were members of the Hmong community and were traveling with their church. One of the passengers killed was pregnant with her first child.

The ATV driver was identified by UHP as Gustavo Mendoza, 35, of Helper.

The accident caused major traffic delays along US 6 while state troopers investigated the accident.
