Utah HC defeats Boston 2-1 in overtime

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The Utah Hockey Club is showing a penchant for overtime in its first NHL season.

Michael Kesserling scored 2:46 into overtime to give the Utah Hockey Club a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.

This was Utah's fourth overtime game in seven games so far this season.

Vladislav Kolyachonok also scored for Utah, tying the game with 5:09 left in the third period and forcing overtime for the fourth time this season. Connor Ingram finished with 22 saves.

Anaheim beats Utah 5-4 in overtime

Cole Koepke scored his third goal of the season for Boston and Jeremy Swayman stopped 30 shots.

After a scoreless first half, Boston took a 1-0 lead on Koepke's goal with 7:11 left to play in the second half. Koepke stormed up the ice after a Utah turnover and fired a low snap shot past Ingram to give the Bruins the lead.

Kolyachonok equalized for the first time this season by charging toward Swayman and sending a backhander past the goalkeeper.

The overwhelming defense pitted Boston against one of the league's most potent offenses for much of the game. Utah boasted a shot-on-goal advantage but struggled to find clean shots despite heavy traffic around the net.

Careless passes and sloppy completions robbed Utah of the impact that was a hallmark early in the season and late into the season.

Kesserling's overtime goal completed an improbable comeback after Utah went scoreless for nearly 55 minutes.

Utah next hosts Ottawa on Tuesday.
