Voters in Colorado can still return ballots and vote in person before 7 p.m

Update 4:46 p.m.: Nearly 2.8 million Coloradans voted in today's election, the Colorado Secretary of State's Office reported in an update this afternoon. These were ballot papers that were reported to have been received by the districts at 2:00 p.m., five hours before voting ended at 7:00 p.m

The 2,772,941 ballots received so far represent a 68% turnout among active voters in the state. These are the voters who were automatically sent mail-in ballots. But compared to all registered voters, including those classified as inactive, turnout is about 60%.

Final turnout for the 2020 election in Colorado was 78.2% of all registered voters. Through Monday, the pace of voting was behind that of 2020, but a strong final day could change that.

So far, about 44% of ballots have come from independent voters, about 28% from Democrats and 26.4% from Republicans.

Update 4:25 p.m.: The Denver Elections Division posted on It had been temporarily closed since just after noon, and election officials announced the center would reopen around 3 p.m

Update at 1:30 p.m.: A voting center in Denver's Hale neighborhood is temporarily closed due to a power outage after a squirrel jumped into a nearby transformer, officials said Monday afternoon.

The Christ Church United Methodist Voting Center, 690 N. Colorado Blvd., was temporarily closed to voters around 12:30 p.m

Church officials posted a picture of the squirrel next to a ballot drop-off sign on Facebook and said they hope to restore power soon.

Other nearby voting centers include East High School and Cook Park. All Denver vote center locations are available online.

Original story: It's Election Day in Colorado. That means voters are running out of time to make their voices heard in the 2024 presidential election, congressional and state legislative elections, and a host of statewide and local ballot measures.

The deadline for voting is 7:00 p.m. This also includes handing in the ballot at a 24-hour drop-off box.

For voters who still intend to vote on a ballot that was mailed to them, it is too late to return it by mail. All mail-in ballots must now be dropped off at mailboxes or voting centers. Alternatively, voters can cast their ballot in person at vote centers open statewide between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m

The Colorado Secretary of State's website – sos.state.co.us – provides a link to a tool that allows voters to find the nearest polling places and ballot drop boxes by entering their addresses.
