Warm and breezy Thursday – Boston news, weather, sports

Mother Nature changed the calendar back to summer today, with highs in the 70s and 80s! Both Boston and Worcester reached new daily records set two years ago. For Boston, this is the latest 80° on file for the day. The last last day was November 2, 1950. Our average last day was 80° Day is September 30th.

This is one less “sweater weather” fall day for us in Boston. The number of warmer than average fall days in Boston has been increasing since 1970.

Where is our sweater weather? A dry cold front will move further east until tomorrow. Our wind is turning to the northwest, but we won't experience noticeably cooler temperatures yet. There will be another cold front on Friday, which will bring significantly cooler temperatures on Saturday.

Tomorrow won't be as warm, but temperatures will still be above normal. The normal temperature in Boston is 55°C°. We'll start tomorrow morning in the 50s. By afternoon it could reach 70 in some cities°. It will be windy and we will see sun and clouds.

Friday will start cool and end mildly in the 60s. The wind will pick up a bit so expect a return to gusty conditions. The 50s return this weekend. Sunday morning will see a cold start in the upper 20s.

Tomorrow we'll take a look at the updated drought monitor. Below you can see where we currently stand. Our next chance of rain is Sunday night into Monday morning. The Euro and GFS are not showing optimistic signs of the drenching rain we need.
