Warriors fans bring energy to Chase Center for the first home game of the season

SAN FRANCISCO – Warriors fans filled Chase Center for the team's first home game of the season.

The team was undefeated after two road wins, but suffered its first loss against the Clippers on Sunday.

Still, many fans remain optimistic, such as long-time Warriors fan Jackie Sanchez.

“The energy on the team is very different this year, it's a very electric, very positive atmosphere,” Sanchez said of the atmosphere in the arena. “I love it.”

Sanchez has season tickets and tries not to miss a game. She already knows there's one game she won't miss when the Mavericks come to town in November with former Warrior Klay Thompson.

“It’s sad, it’s just sad,” Sanchez said. “I won’t miss this game in Dallas. I'll be here. I think it will be a very emotional evening, but still I think the dynamic at the end was really positive.”

Before the game, that positive vibe radiated throughout Thrive Cty as fans young and old came to the game.

“He's two months old yesterday, so we're celebrating his two months,” Mickey Fernandez said of why he brought his new son, Junior, to the game.

Fernandez hopes to inspire his son to become an athlete himself from a young age.

“I don’t know, any sport, any sport, he’ll be interested in something,” Fernandez said.

He also wants to encourage his son to support the Bay Area teams that are still here.

“The Raiders are gone, now the A's are leaving, it's a big blow,” Fernandez said as Junior began to cry. “He’s not happy about it either.”

But there are things to be happy about because despite the Warriors' loss on Sunday, they have a winning record and a lot can still happen between now and the NBA Finals.

Fan Yash Nalluri is expecting a big year.

“Definitely a chip and a Steph MVP,” Nalluri said.

Sanchez had season tickets when the Warriors made their breakthrough in 2022. She says the experience was incredible and she hopes to experience it again in 2025.

“I think it's really, really amazing to get to this point, to be a champion and to get to the top of a sport, and they've done that multiple times in such a short period of time,” Sanchez said. “It was great.”

In addition to the difficult loss, Steph Curry left the game early due to an injury. Still, fans believe they can bounce back on Tuesday against the Clippers.
