WATCH LIVE: PBS News special coverage of the 2024 election

Millions of voters are heading to the polls on Tuesday for their last chance to cast their ballot in the race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Both candidates have spent the final weeks of their campaigns crisscrossing the country, spending considerable time and money reaching voters, particularly in swing states that are crucial to a presidential victory.

More than 80 million Americans have already cast their votes.

In addition to the presidential race, there are a number of important Senate and House races that could change the balance of power in Congress.

Here's how PBS News will cover election night and the upcoming vote count.

election day

The live streaming broadcast begins at 12 p.mwhich highlights our election coverage throughout the year. Look for live updates from our on-site correspondents starting at 3:00 pm EST.

We will conduct live updates on our website, Starts at 5:30pm EST. Consider it your cheat sheet to the biggest developments, race calls, latest insights and updates from our team of correspondents in this space.

Election night

The News Hour show begins at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Starting at 7 p.m., presenters Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett will host a special on-air analysis with a panel of panelists and special guests including:

  • Judy Woodruff, News Hour special correspondent and former anchor and editor-in-chief
  • Amy Walter, publisher and managing editor of the Cook Political Report with Amy Walter
  • David Brooks, New York Times columnist
  • Jonathan Capehart, associate editor of the Washington Post
  • Kevin Madden, Republican strategist
  • Faiz Shakir, Democratic strategist

When the election is over, correspondent Lisa Desjardins will be on our live results wall, breaking down the presidential, Senate, House and ballot initiative results with real-time graphics.

Real-time results

It took days to determine the winner of the 2020 election. It is possible and not unusual or abnormal for the counting of ballots to extend beyond election night. This also applies to election campaigns that involve control of the House of Representatives.

The morning after the election, digital video producer Deema Zein will host a live chat with Desjardins starting at 11 a.m. EST, highlighting key insights and answering viewer questions.

We will broadcast our stream and live results until the winners are announced.
