Watch: Memphis Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey scores the first NBA points of his career on a putback

SALT LAKE CITY – Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey is officially on the board.

The 7-foot-4 rookie scored his first career basket against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. With 9:47 left in the first quarter, Ja Morant missed a layup that rolled off the front edge. Edey jumped up and threw the ball into the basket while being fouled.

Not bad for a player who said Tuesday night before his first career NBA game that it was “hard to sleep.”

Memphis selected Edey with the ninth overall pick in the first round for moments like Wednesday. The team combines his fast basketball game with Edey's ability to score in the low post. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane are among the players who have placed emphasis on Edey getting his post touches.

Edey averaged 12.2 points per game in limited minutes during the preseason. This would be the first of many more points in Edey's Grizzlies career.
