It's one of the most beautiful days in autumn.

Sunday, when we revert to standard time, means something different to everyone.

Whether it's the extra hour before the bars close, the extra hour of sleep you get in the morning, the knowledge that you'll be early for Sunday church, or the excitement when you have a shorter wait for a table at brunch, the extra hour beautiful autumn present.

When will we return to standard time?

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. This year the return date is Sunday, November 3rd.

What should you do before you fall behind on November 3rd?

Before you go to bed on Saturday, November 2nd, you must set the clocks in your house back one hour. It's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

What if we didn't fall behind?

It's hard to wake up in the morning on a sunny day; Imagine not seeing the sun. On the shorter winter days, the sun didn't rise until after 8 a.m

In December, sunrise occurs between 7:04 a.m. on December 1st and 7:23 a.m. on December 31st. Now imagine waking up for work and not seeing the sunrise until between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m

On the plus side, we would have more daylight at the far end as the sun would set between 5:37 and 5:47 p.m

Why do certain states not observe daylight saving time?

Several people have already slept that extra hour. Not all states and US territories participate in Daylight Saving Time.

Hawaii and Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) do not observe daylight saving time, nor do the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Here's why the two states don't observe Daylight Saving Time:

  • Arizona does not follow daylight saving time because the state has decided that during the hottest months of the year there is no good reason to experience sunset an hour later. The only parts of Arizona that observe daylight saving time are those of the Navajo Nation.
  • Due to its location near the equator, Hawaii does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Because it is so close, the amount of sunlight during the day varies little throughout the year.

Is Congress Trying to End Daylight Saving Time?

In 2022, the US Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act. However, according to The Hill, the bill was not a priority in the House and there was disagreement over whether Daylight Saving Time or Standard Time should be the law of the land.

In the end, legislation died and never made it to President Joe Biden's desk.
