What you should know on Sunday – NBC New York

Former President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, which is expected to draw large numbers of supporters and protesters to the area.

NJ Transit warned customers of the possibility of large crowds in the Penn Station area on Sunday from 10 a.m. to approximately 10 p.m.

The exact time Trump is expected to speak on Sunday is not clear, but the official rally program begins around 5 p.m., according to the campaign.

Do you need tickets to the Trump rally?

Tickets are required for the event and are available on a first come, first served basis. People can only register in pairs. Details here.

Large police presence expected

Mayor Eric Adams and senior NYPD officials held a briefing on the eve of the rally to explain the potential impact on Manhattan as supporters and possible protesters attend the campaign event.

“Tomorrow, New Yorkers will see a large police presence around Madison Square Garden for presidential candidate Trump's rally. There will be many protections that you will see and many that you will not see,” Adams told reporters.

“As for any demonstration at the event, the NYPD will, as always, protect everyone’s right to peacefully protest, but we will never tolerate violence, property damage or criminal activity of any kind,” said Acting NYPD Commissioner Thomas Donlon.

Road closures for Trump's campaign rally at MSG

There will be some road closures around the garden that people should be aware of:

  • 33rd Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
  • 32nd Street between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue
  • 31st Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
  • 30th Street between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue
  • 7th Avenue will be closed to pedestrians from 34th to 29th Streets
