Who are the six new Latter-day Saint Area Seventies? -Deseret News

Six new Area Seventies from five countries were sustained Thursday during the leadership session of the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The church will hold the public sessions of its 194th Semiannual General Conference this weekend, October 5 and 6.

The First Presidency calls Area Seventy to assist the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in administering the Church throughout the world and serving as witnesses of the name of Jesus Christ.

The new leaders are:

Third Quorum of the Seventy (Africa Central, Africa South and Africa West Areas)

  • Jean Pierre AL Haboko, 57, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo; Coordinator, seminars and institutes for religion; currently serves as Temple and Family History Warden for Kimbwala Ward 2; former bishop, bishop's counselor, mission president, stake presidency counselor, and stake president; Wife: Jolie; 10 children.
  • George Katembo Njogu Munene, 47, Nairobi, Kenya; Managing Director, Simplify IT, Ltd.; currently serving as Advisor in the Presidency of the Kenya Nairobi West Mission; former stake presidency advisor and stake president; Wife: Sarah; three children.

In the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy (Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico)

  • Ramiro Ibarra Sanchez, 55, Guaymas, Mexico; manufacturing engineer; is currently president of the Guaymas Mexico Stake; former bishop, bishop councilor, high councilor and stake president; Wife: Itzel Janely; four children.
  • Francisco Villanueva Rojas, 44, Santa Cruz Xoxocotlan, Mexico; Actuary at the Federal Court, Mexican Government; currently working as leader of the self-employment group of the municipality of Independencia; former bishop and stake president; Wife: Ester; two children.

In the Ninth Quorum of the Seventy (South America Northwest and South America South Areas)

  • Miguel A. Avila, 40, Lima, Peru; CEO, MTJ General Service SAC; recently dismissed as President of the Trujillo Perú Jerusalén Stake; former Bishop Councilor, High Councilor, Stake Presidency Counselor and Stake President; Wife: Flor; three children.
  • A. Enrique Texeira, 42, Lambaré, Paraguay; O&M Regional Manager, Meetinghouse Facilities; currently serving as Deputy Area Auditor of the Paraguay Asunción North Deputy Area Accounting Office; former bishop and bishop councilor; Wife: Zanir Elena; two children.

Area Seventies typically serve part-time for five years.
