After months of anticipation, political tension and intense campaigning, Election Day is here and voting is in full swing across the country as Americans choose their next president between former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee Candidate, vote.

Among those reporting live on the election and analyzing the results in real time is Bill Hemmer, who will lead Fox News' election coverage with his “Billboard.” Hemmer previously spoke with USA TODAY about what gets him through an intense election night broadcast.

Bill Hemmer is co-host of America's Newsroom on Fox News Channel and one of the network's lead news anchors.

Hemmer joined the network in 2005 and is based in New York. He will report on election night with Billboard at Fox News Channel headquarters in New York, a Fox News representative told USA TODAY.

Hemmer previously told USA TODAY in an interview that the “Bill Board” was “a great way to show viewers how things could unfold in real time.”

“I feel like if you include the viewer in your process, you'll benefit from giving them the perspective you see on your page,” says Hemmer. “I think it's something like an exchange of information, and it's something like an educational process that works both ways. The viewer rewards you if you allow them to peek into what you’re trying to do.”

In addition to politics, Hemmer has also provided extensive live coverage of several major events, including Hurricane Milton from Southwest Florida, U.S. Navy military operations at the North Pole, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and Sandy -Hook Elementary School 2012 Shootings and Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts.

In March 2020, Hemmer co-hosted a virtual town hall with Trump and members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force to discuss the current situation and the latest developments related to the pandemic.

According to Fox News, Hemmer is a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

He has also received several awards and honors, including an Emmy Award in 1996.

Before joining Fox News, Hemmer, 59, was at CNN, where he hosted “CNN Live Today” and “CNN Tonight.”

During his time at CNN, Hemmer covered major world events, including the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

Hemmer began his television career at WCPO in Cincinnati, where he anchored weekend sports. After a few years, Hemmer, then 27, became dissatisfied with his work and decided to take a break from his job, according to a 2005 profile. For the next year, Hemmer traveled around the world with only a backpack and camera to document his journey to countries such as India, Nepal, China and Egypt. His travels culminated in a documentary called “Bill's Excellent Adventure,” which won him two regional Emmys in 1993, one for Best Entertainment Program and another for Best Anchor.

According to an archived report from New York Magazine, the documentary also caught the attention of an agent who later showed it to a CNN executive. The CNN executive then called Hemmer for an audition, which greatly impressed him, and he landed a gig on the network.
