Who won Johnson County's uncontested House district races?

During the general election, a handful of uncontested races in the Iowa House District dotted the landscape of Johnson County. The races for House District 85, House District 89 and House District 90 were uneventful, with a trio of incumbents securing another term.

Iowa House District 85: Amy Nielsen will serve her fourth term

Iowa Democratic state Rep. Amy Nielsen secured another term in the Iowa House of Representatives in an uncontested race. Nielsen represents the 85th District, which includes the cities of North Liberty, Tiffin, Oxford, Swisher, Shueyville and Lone Tree, as well as the rural areas surrounding Iowa City to the west and south.

With 100% of all precincts reporting, Nielsen secured 98% of the 14,108 votes cast, according to unofficial results.

Nielsen has been a member of the Iowa House of Representatives since 2017. Prior to her election to the House of Representatives, she served as mayor of North Liberty from November 2014 to December 2016. Nielsen also sat on the board of the North Liberty Community Pantry and served on the Iowa City Community School District's Equity Advisory Committee.

Iowa House District 89: Elinor Levin will serve Iowa City in her second term

Former incumbent Elinor Levin is securing another term in Iowa House District 89, which covers south Iowa City, University Heights and parts of East Lucas Township.

With 100% of all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Levin secured 99% of the 12,087 votes cast in the uncontested election.

First elected in 2022, Levin, 37, is a private writing teacher from Iowa City who is active in organizations including the South District Neighborhood Association.

Levin said her top priority is making Iowa a better place to live: “The truth is that young people are finding more and more opportunities to leave Iowa, whether it's for better pay, better health care, better housing or because they “feeling welcome…” of belonging to their community. Over time, we must pull Iowa back to listen to the people of this state and ensure they can envision their future here.”

Iowa House District 90: Zabner wins again in home district

Incumbent state Rep. Adam Zabner secured a second term in District 90, which includes most of downtown Iowa City, the historic Northside district and much of the east side.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Zabner received 99% of the 14,676 votes cast, according to unofficial results.

Zabner, 25, was first elected in 2022 and is Iowa's youngest elected representative. An Iowa City native and data science graduate, Zabner said his priorities include restoring “reproductive freedom for Iowans.” He co-sponsored legislation enshrining reproductive freedom in the Iowa Constitution.
