Pure spectacle in the top game between Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern. For the record champions it sets the next bitter setback.

Wild exchange of blows and a late shock for FC Bayern! The record champions gave up a victory in a spectacular top game against their pursuers Eintracht Frankfurt. After a late goal from Omar Marmoush, the Munich team had to be content with a 3:3 (2:2).

Coach Vincent Kompany's team remained winless for the third competitive game in a row. Once again, Bayern's high-risk football was their downfall – in the end even coupled with an unusual naivety.

“Frankfurt didn’t have many chances, they took their chances,” said Serge Gnabry DAZN. “We had the game under control. The fact that the score is 3-3 in the end is bitter after such a good game. At the end of the day we have to go home with a win. Bitter for us, but it goes on.”

Kompany praises the “great performance” of his teams

Coach Kompany said: “Let’s stay calm.” What I saw was a great performance from the team. We had so many chances.” In his opinion, a win would have been deserved given their dominance. “We have to continue on our path,” added the Belgian.

Minjae Kim (15th) gave Bayern the lead with his first goal of the season from a corner.

But Eintracht, who had no chance to date, took advantage of their first counterattack opportunity through Omar Marmoush (22'). And after a bad pass from Thomas Müller, who replaced the injured Jamal Musiala, the Frankfurt team turned the game in their favor through Hugo Ekitiké (35th).

Bayern's enormous susceptibility to counterattacks due to their high pressing was punished again.

Marmoush shocks Bayern in stoppage time

But the Munich team had a suitable answer ready: with Dayot Upamecano's first goal of the season (38th), FCB managed to equalize before the break.

After the break, Michael Olise (53') scored to give Bayern the lead again. Late on, Eintracht pushed for an equalizer again. Eric Dina Ebimbe narrowly missed a cross from Rasmus Kristensen (83').

Otherwise, Bayern largely had the game under control and seemed to get the narrow victory over time. But a loss of the ball was enough to dupe the high-ranking Bavarians once again and so Marmoush rewarded Eintracht with his second goal of the evening (90th + 4).

Marmoush: “We had a plan”

“We had a plan because they are always very high,” explained Marmoush, “and we did it very well, were a team offensively and defensively. We celebrate that.”

Bayern remain top of the league with 14 points, ahead of RB Leipzig and Eintracht, who are tied on points (13). Consistency is still missing after the draw against double winners Bayer Leverkusen (1:1) and the defeat against Aston Villa (0:1) in the Champions League during the week.

Müller in the starting line-up

Kompany made two changes compared to the defeat in Birmingham, his first as Bayern coach. Experienced Thomas Müller replaced Kingsley Coman in the starting line-up, Raphael Guerreiro replaced Konrad Laimer at the back right. Dribbling artist Jamal Musiala complained of back problems.

“It’s a normal game for us, we want to get our points and continue in the Bundesliga,” Kompany said before the duel. The Belgian had also warned about the SGE as a “strong counter-attacking team” with “a lot of talent” – and he was right. No doubt he had put aside one of his risky ways of playing.

Bayern get off to a powerful start, pinning the hosts in their half with possession football.

The lively Olise got the first good chance with a shot that Kaua Santos parried (14th). The following corner went to Müller, the veteran showed a good overview and cleverly passed it to Kim, who took the lead.

Counter-prone Bayern were punished coldly

But Eintracht were waiting for a counterattack and took advantage of their first opportunity against a high defense. Ansgar Knauff left Marmoush in the running duel with Guerreiro.

The Egyptian stayed cool and pushed the ball past Manuel Neuer to equalize. It was the seventh goal of the season for the Egyptian, who is leading the league.

The picture remained unchanged: Bayern had the ball most of the time, Frankfurt was waiting for quick counterattacks. Big chances like Müller's, who failed to score in front of Santos (30'), were rare. Instead, Ekitike completed the next perfect counterattack after an assist from Marmoush.

But Bayern quickly came back, after another corner the ball landed in the crowd at Upamecano, who scored to make it 2-2.

Substituted Kane

After the break the same picture emerged – and Bayern celebrated again. After a combination, Olise changed the lead again with a shot from a good 14 meters. Joshua Kimmich (56th) almost followed up with a free kick taken directly at the goal – but in the end Eintracht celebrated again.

In addition, Bayern's top scorer Harry Kane had to be substituted early. The Englishman was apparently ill and after a short break from treatment he couldn't continue. Mathys Tel replaced Kane (72').
