World Series Game 2 predictions and odds

The 2024 World Series started with a classic and Game 2 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees looks set to be another exciting contest.

The series began with the Dodgers' extraordinary 6-3 win in 10 innings, with Freddie Freeman – whose status was in question due to an ankle injury – hitting a walk-off grand slam to give Los Angeles the victory. In Major League Baseball's long, storied history, no one has ever hit a walk-off grand slam in a World Series game, but that wasn't the only notable fact about Freeman's exploits. The home run was a near-perfect recreation of another iconic Dodgers moment, as Kirk Gibson's game-winning home run in Game 1 of 1988 was another walk-off by a player gritting his teeth trying to play through an injury.

The Yankees are hoping to finish the job this time after taking the lead in the 10th and struggling to move runners after 10 hits in Game 1. New York is hoping for Game 2 starter Carlos Rodón's career success against the best bats in the Dodgers lineup to tie the series, which means they'll have to deal with Dodgers righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Here's a look at what the World Series betting markets look like as the Dodgers and Yankees kick off Game 2 on Saturday, including predictions:

USA TODAY Sports Betting wire: Yankees 3, Dodgers 2

“But what tipped the pendulum for me is Rodón. Dodgers OF Mookie Betts is just 1 of 19 (.053) against him. Freeman is just 1-for-7 (.143), OF Teoscar Hernandez is 1-for-9 (.111) and DH Shohei Ohtani and INF Max Muncy are combined for just 1-for-7 (.143). Rodón has been great (+120) in his last two postseason starts with 15 K's over 10 2/3 innings.”

VSI: Take the Dodgers

Adam Burke writes: “One thing that really concerns me for New York tonight is that Yamamoto gave up seven home runs in 18 starts, while Rodón gave up 31 in 32 starts. The Yankees… (are) not a 'manufacturer runs' type of lineup because they are a poor baserunning team overall and don't have many hitters with bat-to-ball contact.

“As great as this offense was during the regular season, they ranked 26th in BABIP and only ninth in batting average. They led the league with 237 home runs and Yamamoto is pretty stingy when it comes to allowing them.”
