Youth soccer league equipment damaged in Petaluma fire

PETALUMA, CA – A fire spread from a portable toilet to a storage container full of Petaluma Youth Soccer League equipment early Monday.

Petaluma police and firefighters responded just after 4:45 a.m. to reports of a fire in the 200 block of Maria Drive, near the soccer field at Lucchesi Park.

“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a completely clogged portable toilet that posed a hazard to an adjacent shipping container,” said Petaluma Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Martin.

Firefighters quickly tried to put out the flames with water hoses, but the smoke and heat had already spread to the container, he said.

The emergency services forced their way into the container to save the contents.

“Unfortunately, the contents of the shipping container, which belonged to the Petaluma Youth Soccer League, were damaged by heat and smoke,” Martin said.

The contents included soccer balls and other equipment used by the youth sports association.

The Petaluma Fire Prevention Bureau responded and investigated to determine the cause of the fire.

The Petaluma Fire Department emphasized the importance of fire safety and prevention.

“We remain committed to protecting our community and appreciate the timely reporting of this incident,” Martin said.
